SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Clinical Specialist (Educator) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive education and support to healthcare professionals on the utilization of cutting-edge medical devices across various healthcare settings, with a primary focus on operating rooms, surgical ICUs, and post-surgical care units. This role exclusively concentrates on education and product support without any sales obligations or direct patient care involvement. Generous base + bonus offering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct peer-to-peer education sessions, in-servicing, and troubleshooting sessions for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and hospital staff to ensure seamless integration and optimal utilization of medical devices.
- Identify customer needs and proactively address issues arising from insufficient familiarity, knowledge, or understanding of the product.
- Follow up with key accounts and clinicians to assess ongoing education and clinical support requirements for successful medical device implementation.
- Support requests for additional training and ongoing education to ensure continuous improvement in device utilization.
- Provide assistance to surgeons and clinical staff in device setup and usage as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to communicate customer feedback, complaints, and suggestions, contributing to the enhancement of future products and features.
- Evaluate customer-specific educational needs and collaborate with colleagues to deliver a tailored and positive educational experience, including input for refining and developing educational programs and materials.
- Train customer supply chain teams on best practices for device care and storage.
- Offer prompt troubleshooting support via in-person visits, phone calls, or email as requested.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to regularly evaluate stakeholder education programs and implement improvements as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Registered Nurse (RN), Physician Assistant (PA), or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cardiac and/or thoracic surgery units.
- At least 2 years of experience in operating room and/or critical care units.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Medical Device Industry, providing user training and education.
- Proficiency with chest tubes and chest drains.
- Strong anatomical and physiological knowledge of the thorax.
- Willingness to travel regionally and nationally, up to 75% of the time - position is subject to daily and / or overnight travel.
- Intermediate computer skills, including familiarity with basic software programs.
- Strong professional acumen with the ability to work collaboratively in group settings.
- Flexibility to work non-standard schedules and travel to various sites as required.
- Comfortable with prolonged periods of standing, and ability to bend or kneel as needed.
- Passion for presenting to groups and facilitating learning.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail, schedule management, and organizational abilities.
- Maintains a polished and professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Self-motivated, reliable, collaborative, adaptable, and customer service-oriented.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Leadership experience, such as in a managerial, educator, or preceptor role.
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU.
- Prior involvement in developing new product training programs for medical devices.
- Background working directly with cardiothoracic surgeons.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The role may involve frequent exposure to diverse healthcare environments within hospitals, including patient rooms, operating rooms, intensive care units, emergency departments, and administrative areas. Physical demands include standing, walking, and prolonged movement. Flexible scheduling, including early mornings and late evenings, may be necessary to accommodate customer needs.
